The Hanover Conservation Council is
a private, non-profit organization incorporated in 1963. The mission
of the Council is to promote the appreciation and conservation of
land and natural habitat in Hanover. We achieve our mission with
programs in land conservation, environmental education and support
for conservation oriented public policies. Currently, over 450 households
pay dues to the Council in support of its activities. The Council
is led by a 13 person board of directors and is staffed by a part
time Executive Director. Over 50 volunteers help to successfully
run our programs.
The Council has helped to facilitate the conservation of over 20
parcels in Hanover and the Upper Valley. Our principle holdings are the 113-acre Mink Brook Nature Preserve, the summit of Balch Hill and the 35-acre Lower Slade Natural Area. We work with landowners and community members to conserve
land in Hanover. The Council acquires land to be conserved and works
with regional conservation groups to assist with conservation easements
in Hanover. The Council offers community education programs on conserved
lands as well as workshops and lectures on conservation topics.
